Cosplay Contest General Rules

  1. Entry forms will be both available online and at the Registration Desk on the first day of the convention. These are accepted on a first-come-first order.

  2. All participants are required to attend the Pre-judging. Participants must arrive with costumes on hand or in costume.

  3. All skits must pertain to Asian culture, music, video game, or animation. Any group that wishes to incorporate additional content outside of these categories will be allowed as long as at least 75% of the skit pertains the above mentioned.

  4. Skits may be no longer than 3 minuets long. NO EXCEPTIONS

  5. Credit must be given for any and all makeup (besides normal cosmetics), and costume design/construction. Costumes are required to be 100% self made, meaning that any costume purchased, commissioned, rented, or commercially made will be disqualified. The only exceptions are:

    • Costumes made from items found at thrift stores, retail, and online, as long as they are used in a unique way. Alterations will be considered depending on the amount of altering done.

    • The costumer has made all the costumes in a skit. Therefore, the only individual will be eligible for a workmanship award.

    • In the case where the participant is a minor, assistance from a parent or guardian is allowed.

  6. Costumes, along with props, are to be entirely self-contained. Meaning that there is to be no connection to electrical, audio, or any type of external plug or source.

  7. Pre-recorded dialogue/background music/sound effects are highly recommended for both Walk-on and Performance entries. A few microphones may be available, but pre-recordings are preferred as they cause no danger if stepped on.

  8. All pre-recorded audio must be submitted on a CD clearly labeled with the name of your group, track number, and group contact number on the CD itself, or the cover. CDs must be playable on standard CD players and have a storage case or paper envelope. PersaCon and its staff are not responsible for scratched or lost CDs and/or cases, so it is suggested that you submit a copy of the original. CDs will be held at the Registration Desk after the event if you have forgotten to pick them up. At the end of convention, they will be submitted to lost and found, so be sure to retrieve them.

  9. For groups who wish to use more than one track in the performance, please record the tracks one after another on the CD, as there will be no skipping or mixing at the event. All tracks will be played from the beginning, no exceptions.

  10. Due to limitations on performance space, we apologize that we cannot cater to wheelchair access for performers. If you still wish to participate in the Cosplay Contest, you must find antiquate help to move on and off stage. Please contact the Cosplay Coordinator prior to the convention for any special needs requests.
